App Store hits 500 mil

Apple has announced that the App Store has achieved over 500 million downloads so far. The company in December launched past the 300 million mark, while apparently still gaining momentum through the holidays. The number of unique apps has also jumped significantly, rising from 10,000 titles last month to over 15,000 releases at this point in time.

An October conference call indicated that the company was then on the verge of selling 200 million apps. 100 million downloads were added in the next 6 weeks, and another 200 million during the holidays and early January.

The rapid expansion of the App Store could add to the competitive edge of the iPhone and iPod touch. The sheer volume of traffic may be attractive to developers, while other manufacturers such as Palm and RIM will still be in the beginning stages of establishing similar portals.

    Wake up

What a shock. The most popular smart phone in the world has far outpaced anything that anyone could have predicted or imagined. Actually, it's not a smart phone. It's a pocket PC that makes phone calls.

Yet there are still those who are straining to convince us that this is just a fad, or something that doesn’t represent reality. If nothing else, these people are redefining what it’s like to be psychotic.

Everyone is entitled to his own opinion; no one is entitled to his own facts.

Fact is, the iPhone/iPod has very much surpassed anything that anyone ever imagined. Everyone else in this game is devoting all their resources to catching up. Good look with that.

Both experienced and novice software developers are now virtual instant millionaires simply by offering something appealing on the app store. That's incredible. It's a phenomenon that we've never before seen in our lifetime. Teenagers are making millions doing this. And those who aren't are expressing their bitterness over standing on the sidelines.

When I read things about such people, and when I know that this is factual, I very much tire reading things from people who go out of their way to persuade me that this platform is nothing more than a flash in the pan.

So many of you simply need to grow up. And quickly, for your own sake.
