Papers 1.9, Papers iPhone

Developer Mekentosj has posted two new versions of Papers, its research organization utility. The software is used to find, download, read and sort scientific papers. Search tools are incorporated for services such as NASA-ADS, JSTOR and Pubmed, and users also have access to features such ratings, smart folders and tabbed browsing.

The core Mac software has been been updated to v1.9, improving its handling of collections, and the detection of metadata in PDF files and webpages. French and German proxies are now supported as well. The most critical addition however is support for the new Papers for iPhone, which also operates on the iPod touch. The app syncs articles from the desktop version of Papers, enabling mobile browsing. Users can additionally search one of six databases, download new PDFs, and send material directly to another Papers for iPhone user or else notify people via e-mail.

Papers 1.9 typically costs $42, and runs on Mac OS X 10.4 systems clocked at 1.5GHz or better. Papers for iPhone is a $10 download from the iTunes App Store, and can be used separately from the desktop client.
