knows as much about apple as i do the mating patterns of sparrows. i sure hope one of the outcomes of the current financial crisis is these analysts are made liable for their baseless speculation. these guys are so wrong so often it's borderline criminal. i know far more about apple and their business strategies than these idiots. of course they're better paid than me, so maybe i'm the idiot, or maybe i just have a problem being unethical.

Apple said last year at the WWDC that it would take "about a year", so hard to call that a delay. And who would listen to a head of Unix engineering about when a product would ship. That's like saying "The head of the Spotlight search group says it will ship in 6 months".

It is thought however that Snow Leopard may be laying the groundwork for future iMacs, equipped with quad-core Intel processors.

And this is wrong too. There is nothing in Snow Leopard that is needed to run quad-cores, or run them in iMacs. There may be optimizations and under-the-hood stuff that will benefit such computers. But 'laying the groundwork' implies that these are needed for the imacs to be released.

Now they can take the time to finally get rid of the last horrible Aqua widgets that look so out of place and old at this point.

Snow Leopard "delay"????

How can a product that has no announced shipping date be delayed?

I know it's a picky point but words are important and articles like this are picked up by blogs and repeated around the world. Your job is to be accurate and there is NOT, (nor can there be at this point), a "delay" in shipping Snow Leopard.

Actually, who says their job is to be accurate? Why should they be any different than basically any other site out there?

Why would a quad-core processor take an additional 6 months of development? It wouldn't. SMP in Unix is fully scalable to dozens of cores - Mac Pro's already have quad cores and so does my PC Hackintosh. Also, the recent beta builds of Snow Leopard suggest its near completion. This is BS.

What would suggest that? Since 'beta' no longer means what it used to (a version of the software that is feature complete and undergoing testing), who knows what Apple is still trying to fit in there (just like the Firefox folks adding more stuff to 3.1 ...er.... v3.5).

And I don't trust the single-source user who claims "I've run the beta of x**, and its stable and ready to go!". You hear this all the time, but one person's stable is another's shaky. Of course, I recall someone saying on these boards back in 2007 how they were running a Leopard beta, and it smoked Tiger, was literally 10 times faster, and screamed. Still waiting for that, too...

But one would hope it feels 'near completion', as Apple's supposed goals were bug fixes and optimizations. Hate to think that 1.5 years after Leopard was released, they're still trying to clean out it's bugs. Oh, wait....
