Wolf 3D on App Store
In tandem with the release of a free developer version, id Software has also released a publicly-accessible App Store edition of Wolfenstein 3D. Players control B.J. Blazkowicz in first-person combat against the Nazis, fighting through a number of indoor environments. The game has over 60 levels divided into six episodes, and sports the original six weapons, including the chaingun.
B.J. can be controlled solely using touch commands, or else through a combination of touch and motion-sensing. The official app is a 9.9MB download and costs $5; the game is simultaneously available for free through Cydia, though this requires a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch. The Cydia edition is simply a compiled version of the developer code.

Unless this is altered I would expect it to disappear shortly because of the anti-n*** hysteria we have nowadays. The original game is full of swastikas, which our glorious leaders outlawed recently.
It's either censored, or one complaint from a more "sensitive' person and it will be pulled.

You open-source the software, but still charge for the game? $5? For a game people played once on their IBM 386 PCs?

wolf3d is a great classic game and some of us old timers appreciate. ;-) id software made the source available for anyone to download. I am not a game developer, but, at least for me, I am allowed to study the code. Although id released the source as GPL, the data that is bundled with the app is copyrighted. This is clearly stated in the readme file. $5 maybe a little steep for an old game, but I felt it was worth it. It is the least I can do as a symbol of good will towards id software. I consider it as a donation. Having said that, this is the only paid application I ever bought from iTunes.

If you retain the exclusive copyright of a product, an open source license can do nothing to alter or diminish your rights as the author.
