Library of Congress uploads audio archives to iTunes

The United States Library of Congress has begun the process of uploading its audio collection to the iTunes Store, reports say. The content of the first upload is limited to 39 podcasts, but should expand in coming weeks as the Library adds content such as first-person slavery accounts, and interviews with a number of book writers. All of the current podcasts fall into the latter category.
The distribution scheme is not exclusive, as it mirrors material from the Library of Congress website. The institution notes that it may expand to more audio and video services as deemed useful; immediate plans involve uploading some 100 videos to YouTube, including early Thomas Edison and Westinghouse movies. Since January the Library has made regular image uploads to Flickr, adding 50 files per week on top of a base of 3,100.
