iPhone apps: Gravity Shmavity, Rattler, Otto Matic

  • Gravity Shmavity ($2) is a game where players must use a mixture of the accelerometer and touch based controls to complete 30 different levels. Tilting the screen will alter the direction of gravity and players can use this to guide the falling apples towards Issac Newton's head. The game also features two different modes of play, Endless and Challenge, and an up-beat remix of a classic Mozart piano concerto.

  • Rattler ($2) simulates the experience of viewing and interacting with a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake. The snake responds to taps on the screen by getting close to the tap point, hissing and rattling in response, and if agitated, it strikes after coiling back. The application also includes several options that allow users to choose how aggressive the snake is and what the background environment is.

  • Otto Matic: Alien Invasion! ($5) puts players in the role of Otto Matic, a robot whose job is to save the Earth from the brain aliens. The game takes players across 10 levels on various planets where they must defeat different alien enemies. Players have access to seven different space themed weapons to use against the 25 different alien creatures.

  • Doodle Jump ($1) is a game where players must guide their character up through levels by jumping from platform to platform. As the level progresses the platforms begin to move and various monsters begin to appear. The game also includes in-game high score markers that allow a player to visually see when they are surpassing other peoples best efforts.

  • MobiScope ($3) allows users to remotely view their IP network cameras on their iPhone or iPod touch. The application features support for cameras from over 50 manufactures including D-Link, JVC and Toshiba. Users can also access a database of public webcam streams from within the application and view up to four different streams simultaneously.

      Gravity Shmavity

      Out of all the iPod apps you showcased, I like Gravity Shmavity the best. The very fact that it is sensitive to how you hold the iPhone encourages some extra movement other than the small nudges of a finger. There's some balancing involved. I like how nowadays some apps/games are getting more of the human body involved (eg: Wii).

      Rattler rocks !

      The rattlesnake in the Rattler app is amazing. Gives you a feel that you are dealing with a deadly snake. The movements, the sounds and the responsiveness of the snake are all very good. My son was awestruck to see the snake hiss and move near the screen !

      This is definitely one the gems waiting to be discovered.
