Bento update, new featuers

FileMaker debuts Bento Template Exchange, update

FileMaker has announced Bento 1.0.1, an update to its mobile personal database for managing contacts, coordinating projects, and tracking bills, as well as the launch of its Bento Template Exchange. Bento for the iPhone (and iPod touch) offers users a portable database to store information ranging from birthdays to home expenses, and provides 25 pre-designed templates to start. Bento mobile can sync with the desktop version or work as a standalone, and includes integration with the address book, dialer, Safari browser and e-mail in-box. The newest version of Bento adds compatibility for the iPhone OS 3.0, and is said to resolve customer-reported issues relating to data entry, stability, and data displays.

An iPhone version of TweetDeck is coming soon, says Digg founder Kevin Rose. Already in beta, the iPhone app is said to reproduce features of the desktop Twitter client -- namely its signature groupings, which are organized into columns. Users should be able to flick through columns to switch groups.

Air Sharing Pro ($10) allows users to access, view, e-mail, print, store and manage documents on an iPhone or iPod touch. Users can wirelessly connect their handheld devices to a computer as an external drive and use drag and drop to transfer documents. The software is also able to open common files including Microsoft Office and iWork documents. Furthermore, Air Sharing Pro features support for ZIP files allowing users to archive multiple files and email them as one attachment.

Altec Lansing today expanded into more serious in-ear listening with its Backbeat Pro in-canal earphones. The set uses neoprene ear tips and dual flanges for a close fit to a wearer's ear in order to isolate it from ambient noise. Each earpiece has a single armature but is characterized as balanced rather than emphasizing bass.
