iPhone 3.0 hits iTunes

Apple has begun distributing the final iPhone 3.0 firmware through iTunes. The 230MB download adds a number of demanded features to the iPhone OS, such as tethering, MMS messaging, turn-by-turn navigation and copy, cut and paste. Movies, audiobooks and TV shows can now be bought or rented from a handheld, and expanded control of third-party accessories has been enabled. JavaScript performance is said to be substantially improved, sometimes tripling the speed of the Safari web browser.

Some other changes include voice memos, stereo Bluetooth, global Spotlight searches and landscape keyboards for all first-party apps. Third-party apps have gained support for features like in-app purchases and peer-to-peer networking, while the OS in general should now support autofill on the web, and automatic logins for Wi-Fi hotspots. Some 100 new features are present in total.

    Got it

Love copy and paste! The spotlight is really nice too, I like how it was implemented (furthest screen to the left rather then a separate app icon)

iTunes shows the update, but as soon as I click download I receive a message telling me it is unavailable to the Argentine Store

    Birthday calendar gone

Everything went fine with my download and upgrade EXCEPT they had finally figured out letting the Birthday calendar sync over MobileMe. Did they undo that capability deliberately or just forget it??

    First backup takes longer

The backup/sync right before you install and after install is always much longer, since it does a 100% backup. After that, backup/sync should be fast again as it only does the changes...
