iTunes Pre sync may break
Apple has published a new technical note, warning mobile phone users that it cannot guarantee third-party devices will be able to sync with iTunes. Although some devices like the new Palm Pre will work with iTunes, Apple has also made it clear that as newer versions of iTunes are released, phones that can currently sync may lose the ability. Apple goes on to mention that even though some parties claim their media players can sync, the company will not provide support.
It is unclear if Apple's policy may actually have an effect on the Pre, as the phone is identified as an iPod within iTunes. In order for iTunes to prevent the Pre from syncing it would likely have to detect hardware differences, which could be difficult since many of Palm's current engineers are former Apple employees, and have experience working with the iPod and iPhone. The Pre is generally considered the chief rival to the iPhone.

Why doesn't Palm just write their own sync program that happens to know how to access the iTunes playlists? They USED TO have the best sync software out, so it's not like they don't know how to do it.
