iPhone apps: Beyond.com, Warpack Grunts, 321Run Lite

  • Beyond.com (free) is an application for browsing jobs from thousands of top-tier industry and local career websites. Users can search for jobs by keyword or location, view details for each entry or bookmark them for later use. The software also allows users to browse career articles that contain advice on job searching, resume writing and other information.

  • Warpack Grunts ($1) is a shooter game in which players take control of a squad of four soldiers who are known as the Grunts. Players battle through 40 different levels, while shooting, bombing and sniping enemies as they try to defeat Evil Dude and his general Issimo. With four different difficulty modes available, players can complete sections to unlock levels or share their high scores online.

  • 321Run Lite (free) is a mobile, GPS-enabled version of the company’s health-centric running app that records distances and calories. The program is designed to monitor the user's running progress and includes a section for entering the calories lost and average speeds. With earphones, users can listen to the “coach” reminders for rhythm changes and running distances.

  • Boat Mania ($1) is a game in which players must direct the docking of incoming boats to prevent collisions. The game offers a quick-play mode or ten different unlockable levels, each with varying goals. Players are given three unique colored piers for docking the boats, while the speed of boats gradually increases for added difficulty. Paths to the dock are traced by simply swiping a finger across the iPhone in the direction desired.

  • MSNBC.com (free) is a news access application that delivers breaking news, videos and photos from MSNBC.com. Users can obtain information on their favorite news topics from both NBC news and MSNBC.com, with options to share articles and track Twitter feeds. The settings provide scan-and-scroll capabilities, along with play-and-pause video functions. A sponsorship from Best Buy has also been integrated into the app that offers their deal of the day and incorporates best Buy’s Twitter feed.
