Al Jazeera iPhone app
The Arabic TV news network Al Jazeera has launched a new iPhone application, also compatible with the iPod touch. Users are able to stream the English-language version of the network's news feed, which has attracted controversy both Western and Middle Eastern countries as a result of covering material like statements from Al Qaeda. Video can be streamed in either low or high quality, depending on whether users are on a 3G or Wi-Fi connection.
The app's developers warn that the app consumes 7.2MB of bandwidth for every 10 minutes of 3G video. The title is also currently incompatible with the iPhone 3GS, due to an unexpected bug. A corrected version of the app is anticipated sometime this week. The software is selling at the App Store for $3.

Nice, Al Jazeera has great coverage of world news. To me, they're right up there with BBC World and PBS as far as quality and depth of story coverage. Certainly one of the best sources of video news in the world, and leagues above CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, etc.

Heh. Yeah, at least Al Jazeera is a real news network, unlike Fox.

Al Jazeera is actually one of the most unbiased news sources there is. Makes Fox look like a n*** network.
The podcast has been available in iTunes for ages, it's worst fault being that it's kind of long and boring sometimes.
If anyone is interested in this I suggest getting the free podcast rather than paying for the streaming app.

... but it seems every other news organization app is free, right?
It's good to have another news source that's not a mouthpiece of corporate interests that attempts to distract US citizens from what's REALLY going on in the rest of the world.
Since Al Jazeera will probably never appear on any US cable network, this is probably the next best thing.

"Makes Fox look like a n*** network." Actually, you can't attribute that to Al Jazeera. Fox does that all by itself.

Wouldn't this be coming from Al Jazeera English, not Al Jazeera itself. They are considered two different entities.

..to show me this week's "Infidel Torture with Manny Aziz!" ?? I'd really like to have instant iPhone access to all those hilarious vids of westerners getting their heads sawed off! All of you (who have never served, I'm sure) can purchase this app and feel good that you're funding Al Qaeda's propaganda wing.

wanting your news not be ridiculously neocon-biased means you MUST be a radical leftist.
since obviously there are no other possible reasons.
EVERYONE knows that 100% of political discourse can be pigeonholed into either "neo-conservative" and "radical socialist lefty". NO OTHER OPTIONS.
people who promote willful ignorance and anti-intellectual pursuits like REFUSING to even bother learning on their own or researching a situation beyond one-sided talking points are ruining this country faster than any one political party.
oh c***... that probably sounded "elitist" thus i must be a radical leftist.
