Worms for iPhone on sale

After some delay, Team17 has released the iPhone version of Worms, its flagship strategy game. Players control a cluster of cartoon worms as they try to annihilate all other competitors. The game is turn-based, and sees players use a variety of nonsensical weapons including holy hand grenades and exploding sheep.

Six different environments are present, each with randomized terrain varying from session to session. Single-player modes include one-off skirmishes, and a set of 50 challenges with unlockable items. Multiplayer matches support up to four people, each of whom is able to distinguish their worms using custom names, voices and grave markers. A current iPhone 3.0 feature is support for custom music; more is promised in the future.

The game costs $5 and requires iPhone 2.2.1 firmware. Some users have complained of performance lag on devices other than the iPhone 3GS.

    lag

There's definitely lag, although restarting the iPhone after installation did help. It's still slow in many ways, but I'm sure now that it's released, you'll see optimizations (Katamari was also very slow before a 1.1 update fixed much of it)

The developers said in the app store note that the 3.0 features (I assume multiplayer?) will come in a future update.

    3GS

Maybe it was optimised for the new 3GS with its better graphics.

    so disappointed

I rushed to the App Store to get this as soon as I heard it was available, and unfortunately, was terribly disappointed.Yes, the performance is a little :/ on my 3G, but that wasn't bad. The controls, though, are HORRIBLE.The first time you try to move the map and end up walking off the edge of a cliff, you want to throw your phone through a window. The tenth time it happens, you want to grab a magnifying glass and burn the worms off the screen.1/5
