Over 1.5B app downloads

Over 1.5 billion downloads have been made since last year's launch of the App Store, Apple says. The service launched roughly concurrently with the iPhone 3G on July 11th 2008, though some users were able to access it in advance. It can now be viewed in 77 countries, and the number of apps is said to exceed 65,000.

Apple marked its billionth app download in April, using a contest to reach the number faster. The company has also for some time said that it had over 50,000 apps available, only updating the number today. The total number of shipped devices supporting the App Store is thought to be over 40 million.

    Holy smokes...

If only Apple had been able to make pure profits off the App Store. It's going to take a long time for the competitor app stores combined to ever catch up.

2 billion downloads by the end of the year, easily. What will the 2 billionth downloader get for a prize?

    65,000 apps

"and the number of apps is said to exceed 65,000."

Of which, 64,500 make some body noise. ;)
