iPhone apps: CardWar, MyWeather, MusicID

  • CardWar ($1) is an iPhone/iPod touch version of the classic card game War. Players compete against the computer by flipping cards one by one. Whoever flips the higher card takes the set and the first player to collect the entire deck wins. The game automatically tracks the current score and also saves the game state when the application is closed allowing users to continue their game at a later point in time. A small deck mode is also included which plays with the same rules but uses only half of the cards.

  • MyWeather ($5) is a weather application that features an interactive heads up radar display, animated satellite imagery, and radar data caching. The application allows users to control terrain settings (road or aerial), animated overlay (radar or satellite with radar), opacity, and play/pause loop. Users can also choose between inches or millibars of pressure as well as Celsius or Fahrenheit temperature. MyWeather includes weather information for cities around the world but currently limits radar imagery to North America.

  • MusicID ($3) is a tool that has been designed to help identify music. Users can searching by artist or track name, entering a line from the lyrics, or recording a short audio clip of the song. When using an audio sample the application attempts to determine the track and then displays related information. MusicID is capable of finding lyrics, cover art, biographies, recommendations and also provides links to the tracks in iTunes.

  • DS Audio (free) can be used to stream music stored on a Disk Station to an iPhone or iPod touch. Music can be streamed whenever an active internet connection. The application allows users to search through by keywords or by browse through the library by artist, album, or playlist.

  • iTinis: Cocktails, Drinks & More ($3) allows users to find new drink recipes and view local bar ratings. The Vegas-themed spinning drink selector allows users to specify ingredients and then find different combinations or find a new completely random recipe. People are also able to rate their favorite recipes and then view what is currently the most popular drink voted on by other iTinis users.
