Song Sergeant 1.0 ships

LairWare has launched new iTunes support software, Song Sergeant 1.0. The app finds duplicate or missing files, and fixes inconsistently-named material. As necessary files can be merged together, keeping play counts, the best song information and the best audio quality. Missing songs are replaced in playlists; the program also attempts to preserve last-played data, and find orphaned files in a music library that are not seen by iTunes.

A variety of presets are said to work for most users, but these can be manually controlled as well. Users can precisely define what will be considered a duplicate and when to prioritize song information or audio data. Song Sergeant requires Mac OS X 10.5, along with an Internet connection. LairWare is selling the title for $20.
