Sony preps iPhone clock radio with 7-inch LCD

Radio would play Apple devices, local media

Sony is preparing an "ultimate" iPhone clock radio that would serve as a hub for several types of media at once, a slip confirmed today. Temporarily seen on a product page (cached), the ICF-CL75iP would have a 7-inch LCD that would not only show music info and the time but show photos from an iPhone or iPod. It would also support videos, though the Sony Insider tip is unclear as to whether these may be limited to AVI, MJPEG and MPEG-4 movies loaded to 1GB of local storage through a USB port.

The system would also show photos and play MP3/WMA music from the onboard flash. Users could wake up to (or fall asleep to) any of these audio sources plus the radio, preset ambient sounds or audio recordings up to 10 seconds long. Those tuning into radio could set as many as 39 favorites.

Ship dates aren't certain, but the listing had the system selling for $150.

    Good but no digital radio...

Well, the concept is good... video, audio, iPod connectivity, radio... except, it is just AM/FM analog radio. Why can't Sony have digital radio tuner in it? There's already something similar (without video) in the market:

    I like it.

It looks cool to me. I'll have to go to the Sony Style store at South Coast Plaza and have a look at it and see how well the control scheme is.
