Questions persist on event's significance
In spite of a holiday weekend, a photo reveals that Apple is now actively preparing the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco for its music-themed special event. The main window of the building has been plastered with the same art from an invitation sent to the press, which also included the caption "It's only rock and roll, but we like it." The line is a reference to a Rolling Stones song.
The event is scheduled for 10AM Pacific time on September 9th, or 1PM Eastern. It is not certain what Apple will announce, but the company is generally expected to debut new iPod touches and nanos equipped with cameras. iPods as a rule will likely gain larger storage capacities, and the accompanying iTunes software may be updated to version 9, bringing with it support for technologies like Blu-ray and social networking. Some have speculated that the company could announce updated Apple TVs, or new iTunes Store video arrangements. The date also coincides with the launch of a remastered Beatles catalog, which could see the band finally available from iTunes.

iTunes store down
The iTunes Store is not working ("temporarily unavailable"). You can look and listen to samples, but not buy anything. Right now it's Monday 10 a.m. Pacific.
It seems too early to be changing the store before Wednesday's event, but I guess you never know...
