Teardown revels processor, memory information

iFixit has dissected the new fifth generation iPod nano, showing the internal components. Apple introduced the Nano at its iPod press event held on Wednesday. The overall design appears to closely match the fourth-generation iPod nano, but with the new camera and a click-wheel that is not permanently affixed to the case as it was in the previous generation. The new video camera is video-only, as the size of the Nano reportedly limits the ability to integrate still-photo capable circuitry. The video camera captures H.264 640x480 video at 30 frames-per-second and captures AAC audio.

The glass screen is thick and lacks the fingerprint resistance of the iPhone, although it is more resistant to breaking than the smartphone display, according to iFixit. The processor is an ARM 339S0081, likely an Apple-branded Samsung processor. The 3.7V lithium ion battery also appears to be very similar to the fourth generation component.

The new 2.2-inch, 240x376 display is slightly larger, elongated by 56 pixels while retaining the same width as the previous LCD. The Nano's camera is a removable component, not integrated on the main board. The 8GB Flash memory chip is Toshiba-branded with a mid-July production stamp.
