PwnageTool 3.1 unlocks some iPhone 3.1 devices

Current-gen devices must wait

The unofficial iPhone Dev Team says it has released a new version of PwnageTool, v3.1. The software jailbreaks various Apple handhelds, allowing owners to install unofficial apps, or unlock an iPhone in particular for use with unsupported carriers. The update is designed to circumvent blocks created by Apple's iPhone 3.1 firmware, released just last week.

Support for PwnageTool is currently limited to the 2G iPhone, the iPhone 3G and the first-generation iPod touch. All later Touches and the iPhone 3GS are becoming increasingly difficult to hack after each Apple update, the Dev Team comments, though full compatibility is still expected in the near future. Owners of such devices with jailbroken iPhone 3.0 firmware are warned not to upgrade to iPhone 3.1 until PwnageTool itself has been patched.

I'm in two minds about updating to 3.1, what with all the talk of problems/bugs.
