Apple posts iPhone 3.1.2 firmware

Minor release targets bugfixes

Distributing through iTunes, Apple has released a new iPhone firmware update, v3.1.2. The code adds no new features, and instead fixes bugs, such as one preventing sleeping iPhones from waking. Also targeted are crashes during video streaming, and a bug which interrupts cellular connections until a phone is rebooted.

A similar firmware update is available for the iPod touch. Download sizes may vary, but should begin at a minimum of 200MB. American iPhone owners are being given a parallel AT&T carrier update, v5.6; it is unknown what changes the code makes.

Haven't upped to 3.1 yet due to reports of shortened battery life. Waiting to see if this fixes that.

Shortened battery life...

I've noticed a significant decrease in the life of my battery on my iPhone 3G. I used to get a typical 2-3 days out of the battery, now it's less than a day. If 3.1.2 fixes it, fine, but I'm planning on going back to Verizon because where I live now AT&T cell service is just non-existent. Verizon isn't much better, but at least my girlfriends Verizon phone works with a 2 bar signal.

Sigh... it just doesn't pay to move!
