Power Technology has launched iDFX, a new app claimed to improve playback quality of MP3 and AAC files on an iPod or other mobile device. The software works as an iTunes accessory and recodes the user's music files in an attempt to recover the same quality that existed in the original CD recordings. In order to do this, the software re-synthesizes damaged or missing harmonics while improving the low frequency range of the track.

The app can also be used to set a common volume level for all tracks, while a CD ripping utility copies CD content with the iDFX enhancement applied. Users can choose between either MP3 or AAC file formats when storing their enhanced music. Content can then be exported to various portable media players such as iPods, Zunes, or devices manufactured by SanDisk and Creative.

iDFX can be downloaded for the discounted price of $40 over the next two days, after which it will return to its regular price of $50.
