Scanner Pro turns iPhones into scanners

updated 12:10 pm EDT, Mon October 12, 2009

Uploads PDFs to multiple locations

Readdle has begun selling Scanner Pro, a new iPhone application. Users can scan in paper documents via an iPhone's built-in camera; the images are then converted into multi-page PDF documents, which can be uploaded to several different destinations. These include e-mail addresses, Wi-Fi-connected computers or any WebDAV server, such as a MobileMe iDisk folder.

If needed, PDF files can be password-protected using 40-bit RC4 encryption. Scans are given special image processing to improve quality, and can be further tweaked for brightness and contrast. The app costs $7, and requires a device running iPhone 2.2.1 firmware or better.

Yet another reason iPhones are banned from areas that have sensitive information displayed within.

What's the advantage of this app, given that you can already take JPEG pictures with the iPhone??

I think the advantage is that you can store the image as a .PDF document, as opposed to a JPG image. There are obvious benefits in this. For one thing, you can't photo-shop a .PDF file.
