Briefly: Flickr integration with iPhoto causes issues

Comics by comiXology app now free on App Store

In brief: An issue with the integration of the iPhoto and Flickr libraries has developed, which can result in users being able to accidentally wipe out entire sets of photos on Flickr. comiXology has meanwhile announced a change in the price of its Comics by comiXology iPhone app, a consequence of Apple now allowing in-app purchases for free iPhone apps.

Recent versions of iPhoto allow users to automatically sync images with Flickr, in order to share them with other users, or simply keep a backup copy. A serious problem has emerged however, in which deleting a photo from an iPhoto album will also unintentionally remove it from Flickr servers. Users who are unaware of the feature can easily delete entire Flickr photo collections. iPhoto does warn users that if they stop sharing an album it will no longer appear on Flickr, but this may be interpretable in a less destructive manner.

comiXology has changed the price of its Comics by comiXology iPhone app, lowering a previous $1 price tag to zero. This is due to a fresh Apple announcement, informing developers that SDK policy has changed to allow in-app purchases from free softare. The earlier payment barrier sometimes resulted in developers having to create separate versions of apps in order to offer free content. The comiXology app still supplies over 60 free comics including the new series Box 13.
