Apple Store undergoes Friday downtime [u]
updated 04:40 pm EDT, Fri October 16, 2009
No new products expected
The online Apple Store has temporarily shut down, observers note. Anecdotes suggest it went offline shortly before 3:45PM Eastern on Friday, and as of 4:40PM the store is still inactive, only displaying a notice about updating content. The Apple Store frequently goes down shortly before a new product release; nothing is expected today however, as the company typically puts products on sale in the morning, and usually early or in the middle of the week.
Update: The store has returned with no new products.

Looks like Apple.com is no longer using WebObjects to power their store.

WebObjects is still being used to power AppleStore (and many other Apple sub-sites), and I'm not saying this out of thin air, I'm part of the WebObjects community and I keep myself informed about this things. :)
The URLs on the product pages don't look like the typical WebObjects URLs because they are using some smart redirects, but if you make an order and go to the checkout page, you'll see the typical WebObjects URLs again.
