Recreates original gameplay mechanics

id Software has released Doom Classic for the iPhone and iPod touch. A new version of the company's signature first-person shooter, the app recreates all of the original game's episodes, as well as the later fourth episode, Thy Flesh Consumed. Also brought back are the original gameplay mechanics, here controlled through one of three different schemes.

Players assume the role of a space marine fighting hell's legions on the moons of Mars, and later in hell itself. Multiplayer options support up to four players, in either co-op or deathmatch modes. As an extra customization option, gamers can use either the original Doom soundtrack or music from their iPod library. The game costs $7, and is a 76.8MB download from the App Store.
