Sonos S5 enables wireless control via iPhone

Sonos has begun shipping its all-in-one wireless music system controlled by iPhone or iPod touch, Sonos ZonePlayer S5. The device is designed for those who only need the player and provides two tweeters, two mid-range drivers and a subwoofer. Users can wirelessly stream music from either iTunes or the Internet and control what music is playing using the company’s free iPhone app (App Store).

The S5 auto-detects connections for any iPod, CD player or TV, and is capable of being expanded with multiple S5’s in order to get simultaneous audio playback through several different rooms. The system supports a variety of streaming music services such as Last.fm, Napster, and Sirius Internet Radio, as well as playing music stored on any Mac, Windows PC, or network attached storage device supporting CIFS.

The company’s controller interface also integrates with Twitter to send the name and artist of a currently playing track to the user’s friends

The ZonePlayer S5 is available from supporting retailers and is priced at $400.
