iTunes Preview adds web component to shared Store links

No need to download iTunes

Without announcement, Apple this week launched iTunes Preview, a new feature of the iTunes Store. The option solves a problem created through the ability to share URLs pointing to store content. Until recently, anyone who was given a link to music and did not already own iTunes would be directed to a generic webpage, simply asking them to download the client.

Links will now at least take viewers to a webpage displaying artist and album content, as well as prices, reviews, and related artists and genres. People must still have iTunes to actually buy tracks or listen to samples, and the option remains unavailable for apps or video. Those who already have iTunes can sample Preview through the iTunes Charts section of Apple's website.
