May enable more sophisticated games

Gamers should in the future be able to play OnLive titles via an iPhone, the company claims. The forthcoming service takes an alternate approach to processor load, shifting the burden from local devices to OnLive's servers; gamers play via a video stream, making performance more closely tied to bandwidth. Early iPhone support was demonstrated late last week alongside clients for TVs and computers.

On Macs and iPhones, OnLive should in theory enable more sophisticated games by overcoming graphic and storage limitations. The company warns however that titles have so far been optimized only for TVs and computers, meaning that initial iPhone compatibility may be limited to OnLive's Community and Social aspects. Users should for instance be able to watch a friend's gameplay in real-time.

No release date for OnLive or its iPhone support has so far been confirmed.
