Airlock for Mac locks screens based on iPhone proximity

updated 03:45 pm EST, Tue December 1, 2009

Also works with iPod touch

The MHA has launched Airlock, new security software. The programs locks or unlocks a Mac based on the proximity of an iPhone or iPod's Bluetooth receiver. A Mac locks when a handheld goes out of range, then unlocks again when the device returns. Airlock also accepts a user's account password as backup, in case a handheld is unavailable or its battery dies.

The program runs as a System Preferences pane. Configuration options include the detection range, and automated actions upon unlocking, such as logging into iChat, refreshing a website or taking a snapshot via an iSight camera. Other tasks can be linked to exiting a Mac's range.

Airlock supports Intel Macs running Mac OS X 10.5 or higher. It costs $8 for a single license, which works on up to three computers. Multi-site licenses are also available.

But it doesn't work....

It's a great idea, but it doesn't sound like they were ready for primetime yet. I spent the $7.77 and am hoping to hear from support as my iPhone, like lots of others apparently, is not detected by Airlock. Yet.

You are talking about Macs right? hehehe. Of course you are. That's why you'll never see Mac's marketshare higher than 5%. Just slightly better than those Linux losers.
