Brings console series to iPhone, iPod touch

Namco has released Ridge Racer Accelerated, the first iPhone entry in a long-running series of racing games. The games concentrate not on realism, but on speed and an unusual take on drifting. Accelerated includes two courses by default, which can be raced in reverse if certain goals are met.

The same applies to the title's two machine classes, which start with six cars but have an extra 12 cars to be unlocked. Namco eventually intends to offer over 40 courses and 60 cars; some of these will be made available through free updates during 2010, but the company is currently selling a six-course expansion for $3, and a collection of cars for $2. The app by itself is priced at $3.

While the game is compatible with with any iPhone or iPod touch, the iPhone 3GS is recommended. Optimization for 3G-level devices is promised in a later update. iPhone 2.2.1 firmware is required.
