Dev represents high end of App Store success

Tapulous is now earning almost $1 million a month in terms of iPhone app sales, according to Reuters. The Tap Tap Revenge developer says that its games have been installed over 20 million times, even though it has a team of just 20 workers. While iPhone development does typically require few people, companies with Tapulous' level of revenue may often be substantially larger.

Income is said to be derived through a combination of advertising, initial app prices and extra song sales. The developer has refused to disclose its profits, but it may soon be in a position to pay back the $2.8 million raised by its investors, such as Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff. The company is a notable exception in the industry, as some have complained that achieving any sort of profit may be dependent on a visible ranking in App Store charts.
