GPS app also gains simulation mode, better music

Magellan has updated RoadMate for the iPhone to v1.10, adding several new features. The app handles turn-by-turn navigation, with extra help in the form of voice guidance, lane directions and 3D landmarks. New in the update is support for the iPod touch, though only the second-generation player, rather than the first- or third-gen models. Touches must also be paired with the Premium Car Kit, since they lack a built-in GPS receiver.

The app has also been improved with configurable speed warnings, and a simulation mode, which allows users to preview a trip at fast-forward speeds up to 16x. Routes in general can now include multiple destinations, and points of interest on a map have been made interactive, popping up options to call them or set a waypoint. When listening to music, users must no longer leave the map screen to control playback.

Minor enhancements include the addition of Find My Car to the OneTouch menu, and a sorting of city selections by distance. The interface as a whole has been revised to be easier to use, for instance through a direct map access button and an option to save present locations by tapping the car icon. RoadMate is selling for $60 until January 3rd, after which it will return to $100.
