Branex intros iTamtam iPod docking stool

France-based Branex Design had a booth full of unique iPod/iPhone iTamtam docks at CES that users can sit on. While it has other designs and models back in the home market, the first product Branex will offer in the US is the M1. It weighs just under 11.5lbs and is rated at 70W. Beneath the cover are four 1.5-inch tweeters with 10W of maximum power handling and a 5.25-inch subwoofer rated at 80W max.

Branex will begin offering the M1 in various colors, including pink, blue, orange, red, purple, green and yellow. The large speaker dock in fully compatible with and officially certified for use with iPods and iPhones and there is also a 3.5mm audio jack for connecting other digital audio players.

The M1 will begin shipping in the US soon, priced at $570.

    SUB?

Um, at 5 1/4", I don't know if you'd really call that a "sub." It would really depend on the crossover. More likely, it's a mid-range/sub speaker that covers both frequency spectrums. The whole point of having a sub is to clean up the loss of detail issue when using a mid-range-sized speaker for that wide of a spectrum. From what is shown here, this unit doesn't appear to have that capacity.

    1, 2, 2.5 Channels?

It's a cute design, but what about the sound? And that IS the point, right? Hopefully?

It might be interesting as one of a 2-channel system, but it seems like giant mono. Whatever happened to stereo channel separation? It'd be a stretch to even call it mid-fi.

I tried going to the Branex website. Egad. All Flash, impossible to navigate in Safari. In Firefox, all static.
