Targus outs new product ranges at CES

Targus at CES introduced a number of new products, including a fingerprint-resistant lineup of screen protectors for a number of smartphones and other handheld electronic devices. The Targus Screen Protector is billed resistant to scratches, smudges and skin oils thanks to its tiny ridged construction that also helps to eliminate glare.

It should work with the iPhone 3G/3GS and iPod touch as well as the BlackBerry Storm, Curve, Bold and Pearl, T-Mobile's G1, the Palm Pre, HTC's Touch Pro and Touch Diamond, 4.3-inch GPS devices and Sony Readers with touchscreens. Prices start at $10 and vary depending on the hardware.

Targus also unveiled a new charger for mobile devices that can be customized thanks to the company's Tips from Targus program. When owners change devices, Targus will send them free tips for the devices, though shipping charges will apply. It also has the ability to charge a notebook and a low-power device such as a smartphone at the same time. A premium kit includes nine tips compatible with most popular notebooks on the market, a mini-USB tip and an iPhone/iPod tip. This package also includes a car charger which can also power two devices. It retails for $150.

Two compact Targus chargers are also available, with one shipping with tips compatible with most HP, Compaq, Acer, ASUS, Gateway and Fujitsu computers, while the other is made to work with Dell, Toshiba, Sony, Lenovo, IBM and Panasonic devices. A mini-USB adapter is included, while a Apple connector is offered for the price of shipping. Either charger costs $90.

The Targus Netbook charger will power various products from Acer, ASUS, Compaq, Dell, HP, IBM, Lenovo, MSI and Samsung. It also retails for $90 and can charge a cell phone at the same time. A mobile laptop charger is said to be the lightest and smallest DC charger and ships with 8 notebook tips along with a mini-USB tip. It weighs 6.9 ounces and is 3.5 inches long, while the suggested price is $80.

Finally, Targus has added new notebook and netbook sleeves, as well as backpacks which were redesigned to be more robust. The bags sport a Tri-cell Cushion System, which uses foam padding, breathable mesh and a tarpaulin that is water-resistant.

A newly launched Unofficial carrying case lineup is made for thin and light notebooks and includes a slipcase, backpack, and messenger bag. All new cases will begin shipping in March.
