Apple withholding iPhone OS updates because of tablet?

New multi-touch gestures 'out of control'

Apple is deliberately holding back on updating the iPhone firmware, a "close Apple connect" is said to have learned. While testing of v3.1.3 and even v4.0 firmware is believed to have been exposed in mid-December, no updates have been announced by Apple, or lately made available to developers or the public. The reason, says the source, is that there are too many references in current builds to Apple's upcoming tablet, which the company does not want leaked.

The source also describes the tablet as an "iPhone on steroids," with multi-touch gestures that are "out of control." Its internal model number is believed to be K48AP, and the CPU is alleged to be an extremely fast ARM-based model. The claim backs reports that Apple is using a chipset designed by PA Semi, a company bought by Apple two years ago. ARM regularly licenses its technology to other firms.

    Well...

    That makes perfect sense.

Who knows what goodies are in store for us iPod touch and iPhone users?

    Good going Apple!

By keeping the OS out of the hands of developers or customers, they've completely kept the secret of whatever device they may or may not be developing.

Oooh, maybe it's time for the release of Asteroid!

    Or the Powerbook G5!!

Another article with lack of research

"ARM regularly licenses its technology to other firms" Apple has acquired a license from ARM to use its technology and develop new hardware using that technology. Check for past articles.

PA Semi now has legal access to ARM knowledge and rights to use that in its own designs. That makes them Apple owned.

    Just a thought,

    additional info

    from the article mentioned above:

"While ARM Holdings plc CEO Warren East has declined to name the company that has taken a multiyear architecture license for its current and future technologies, he gave enough clues while speaking to financial analysts, which clearly showed that Apple Inc. is a contender.
I'll throw down some circumstantial evidence but for me processor design guru Dan Dobberpuhl is the key.

Whoever the licensee should prove to be, the company signed the far-reaching license during Q2, and is a leading OEM handset maker that wants to develop its road map for mobile computing devices. It is also seems to be handset maker that wants to keep control of its handset design, including the components within it. Sound like anyone familiar?"

Research people. Try some before writing articles.

    Just a thought,

    Non-disclosure

    anyone?

Seems "the source" isn't clear on the concept. At any rate, it's possible that any/all of those code references could be removed in the final shipped product, so whether there is info in there pointing to "a new product" or not, it still isn't a product until it is officially announced by Apple, and ships. Code in beta software is not a new product. Internal prototypes aren't guarantied to ever ship.

No tablet announcement???? Are you crazy?

Steve Jobs had better not step on stage without a tablet. Apple fans whole lives are depending on this mythical Apple tablet. The Apple tablet is up there with rumors about the discovery of warp drive or teleportation. I've already envisioned at leastt 50% of the people in the U.S. walking around with an Apple tablet that connects to millions of petabytes of books, newspapers, magazines and video data with the swipe of a few fingers. I refuse to go back to reading an ordinary book or newspaper. This is 2010, not 1910.
