New app displays galleries, photos, video
Apple has launched a new app for viewing Mobile Me galleries on the iPhone, MobileMe Gallery (free, App Store). Users enter a MobileMe name and password to get a list of albums from their own gallery and can browse others' as well. The gallery page has a list of albums with a preview picture and a scrolling set of random images at the top. Albums can be navigated with flicks back and forth and pinch to zoom. The app supports landscape playback for horizontal images and also plays back video clips.
Much of the deeper access is also the same and allows for password protected and hidden galleries. It also doesn't require an active Internet connection and, unlike the website, stores previously viewed photos for iPod owners or for iPhones off of the cellular grid.
MobileMe Gallery logically requires a MobileMe account and also needs a device with iPhone OS 3.1 or later, including all iPhone and iPod touch models released to date.

Sorry Apple, all 11 pages of apps are already full. I wish they would have integrated this into their iDisk app, as I just can't justify installing a whole other app just for this.
