Apple Q1 breakdown shows resumed desktop growth

General Asia Pacific sales jump dramatically
In addition to a general statement, Apple has released a detailed breakdown (PDF) of its Q1 2010 financial results. Most notable may be an increase in desktop revenue, up to $1.692 billion from $1.045 billion in the same quarter of 2009. Desktops have been a sagging component for Apple in recent quarters, but have probably been reinvigorated by the debut of new iMacs.
Notebook revenue is up 9 percent year-over-year to $2.758 billion. Regarding the iPhone, while units have risen 100 percent, revenue is up 90 percent to $5.78 billion. Apple likewise notes that while iPod units are down 8 percent, matching revenue has risen 1 percent; the figure may suggest higher ASPs (average selling prices).
Music-related revenue is up 15 percent to $1.164 billion, and peripherals have grown 21 percent to $469 million. Software revenue is noted to have increased 4 percent to $631 million.
In regional terms the company has grown Americas revenue 15 percent to $6.092 billion. Europe has leapt 40 percent to $5.024 billion, and Japan is up 57 percent to $783 million. The most significant jump however may be in Apple's Asia Pacific sector, which has rocketed 142 percent to $1.813 billion. The income is likely attributable to new iPhone carriers, including the first ones for China and South Korea.
Tracking worldwide retail operations, Apple says it has grown 13 percent year-over-year to $1.971 billion. The number is actually down from the $2.041 billion taken in Q4 2009, despite Q1 2010 representing a holiday sales period.
