Air New Zealand flights to have iPod jacks, power

Air New Zealand plane redesigns announced
As part of its long-term and comprehensive aircraft revamp, Air New Zealand has added PC power, USB and iPod connections to its economy seats, along with an improved sleep pillow. Fliers making the long, 12-hour flights from California to Auckland will now be able to charge notebooks, smartphones and other devices for most of the trip.
Some airlines offer power at the seat but usually only supply one solution or the other, often forcing travelers to shut down their devices at a certain stage during the flight.
Other improvements include coach seats redesigned by Recaro, while eleven rows of three seats can convert into beds, which Air Zealand calls SkyCouches. Buying all three seats allows fliers to convert them into the couch, with the third seat sold at half price.
The changes will be introduced in new Boeing 777-300 aircraft which will come into Air New Zealand's service starting this November before spreading to other aircraft in the airline's range. [via Gadling]

I flew Air New Zealand, and even coach was excellent (not as plush as what you see above, for sure).
I flew Air Canada last year and both the aircraft comfort and amenities, as well as the service provided by the flight attendants, were outstanding.
Then I go fly here in the USA and I wish I had taken the bus or my car. United and US Air are perhaps the worst of all and I'd put United at the bottom of the list.

Last time I was on Air Canada, the planes had both a USB connection which could power an iPod touch as well as a 110V outlet to plug my MacBook Pro into. Definitely helps pass the time on a 10 hour flight.

So what is an 'ipod jack'? And how does the USB connection differ from the iPod connection?

The "iPod jack" is to allow you to connect your iPod and play your media onto the TV screen in the seatback in front of you I believe. So it would be an iPod Dock connection, rather than the straight USB.
