Logitech app treats iPhone as trackpad, keyboard

Requires Wi-Fi connection

Logitech has recently published a second app for the iPhone and iPod touch, Touch Mouse. Users can navigate a cursor on a Mac or Windows PC by treating the app as a trackpad. Portrait and landscape views are supported, and scrolling is possible with two-fingered gestures.

To enter text on a computer, users must bring up an onscreen keyboard, which displays the output on an iPhone or iPod in real-time. The keyboard can be toggled on or off as needed, and supports modifier keys and landscape orientation. Macs paired with Touch Mouse require Mac OS X 10.4 or better, while Windows owners must have XP, Vista or 7. Necessary in both cases is a Wi-Fi connection and the free Touch Mouse Server software.

    Touch Mouse App

While you can download the server software easily enough, the app is not available on the Canadian store at this time.

    Further Application

I really wish Apple would let you do something like this to use your AppleTV. They already give you a remote app, but when entering passwords or URLs, it would be a great boon.

    No authentication, otherwise very cool

It's a VERY cool app, and works quite well. The only huge downside is that there's no method of authenticating to the TouchMouse Server once it's running, which means that anyone who has the iPhone app and either knows your computer's IP address or is on the same network can take control, which is not cool at all. Still, it'll be fun to play with on my well-secured home network and the mac that I have stashed in a closet and connected to the TV in the living room.
