Pushes publisher's overall revenue
French developer and publisher Gameloft generated $25 million off the App Store in 2009, according to the company's newly-released financial statement for the period. The figure represents a 231 percent increase year-over-year, and helped to push the company's mobile sales up by 12 percent. This in turn helped to boost the company's overall revenue, which was up 11 percent to about $170 million.
Gameloft is an extremely influential player in mobile gaming, creating or publishing dozens of titles every year. The company notes in fact that some 94 percent of its 2009 revenue came from mobile titles, with the rest stemming from consoles. Some of Gameloft's iPhone and iPod titles include NOVA, Hero of Sparta, Oregon Trail and Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles.

So, if I did my math correctly, the App Store generates 15% of Gameloft's sales. The overall 11% increase in sales was $16.8M, but the the App Store increase was $14.8M. That means the increase in App Store sales accounted for 84.5% of Gameloft's sales increase. So sales from other game platforms was pretty much flat.

Why... just last week a Microsoft spokesperson said developers can't make any money with iPhone/iPad apps. It sure sounds like they are making some money to me :)
