iPhone 3.1.3 causing battery, playlist problems?

The iPhone 3.1.3 firmware has introduced problems for some people even as it has fixed them for others, say complaints on Apple's support forums. Most critical is an issue with battery life, which can suddenly become erratic. A phone's battery meter may potentially swing wildly, for instance going from 25 to 7 to 10 percent, then jumping back up to 24 percent.
Worst-case scenarios may see phones losing hours of power, and even running unusually hot. The v3.1.3 firmware was in part meant to correct battery meter trouble on the iPhone 3GS.
Another major problem involves iTunes playlists, which in some cases are failing to sync properly with the iPod touch. While files will copy over properly, playlists may be empty or simply absent. The glitch is believed to affect only smart playlists, and potentially only those with multiple criteria. Temporary workarounds may include reducing criteria to a single field, and/or deleting and remaking previous playlists.
Apple has yet to formally address or fix either of the cited errors.

My 3GS has been giving me wild battery percentages ever since I upgraded to 3.1.3. I can't comment on the playlist issue, but I know for sure that my battery readings are off the wall and unreliable.

Prior to 3.1.3 I was having significant battery problems (in particular seeing a huge drop suddenly from, say, 40% to 13%) and generally poor battery life. Since 3.1.3 it's almost gone away, and I still had plenty of juice left even late at night after being unplugged all day.

Yep I too am suffering the hot draining battery issue with the 3.1.3 update. Called Apple TS, but since I don't have a protection plan they can't assist me. Did find it interesting that after explaining my problem the guy asked "Do you have a 32GB iPhone 3Gs?". Hmmm makes me wonder. I bought a protection plan last night and once it comes in I'll be talking to Apple TS again hopefully getting further than I did before. This morning I'm going to "restore" the phone to defaults, and before I restore from a backup I'm going to run it a bit and see how the battery acts. It's too bad I have to spend $70.00 to get phone support!

3.1.3 is not worth installing

Had same problem with the iphone getting too hot and battery draining too fast after the 3.1.3 update. Took it to the Apple Store (as a walk-in), after a 15 minute conversation with a very nice tech at the Genius Bar, walked out with a new replacement phone at no cost. Phone is running great now, however, I refuse to put this update on the new phone. If you have not yet updated, than don't. In time Apple will figure this out and do an update that will replace this one and not cause these problems.
