SD memory card reader works with ZoomIt App
ZoomMediaPlus has introduced the ZoomIt memory card reader for the iPhone and iPod touch. The new dock-connecting accessory works with the company’s ZoomIt application that provides access to content stored on SD cards. Support is offered for all file types recognized by iPhone OS 3.0, ranging from photos and videos to PowerPoint documents. The accessory allows users to upload all stored media for use at a later time, or share files with other users via e-mail, Facebook or Flickr.
With the added features of the ZoomIt software, users can delete or rename files, send pictures taken with the iPhone camera, and copy or organize the photo album. Support is also included for handling write-protected SD cards and files with read-only attributes.
The new ZoomIt accessory is planned for release in April of this year and will be priced at $60. The company is also allowing up to 250 customers to pre-order the device, which includes a free 4GB SD card, for only $50.

I'm somewhat surprised that the iPad

didn't come with an SD slot since the newer iMacs and Mac notebooks incorporate them. I wonder if those readers take up too much space to fit in an iPad. I'll admit that would have been a nice option to add extra storage for movies, music and photos. Maybe it'll happen in iPad 2.0. I'm curious how the iPad is going to use Apple's data center for access. Maybe just a further extension of MobileMe.

iPad already does have SD support

It's just not included in the hardware. It's part of a $29 kit that also includes a USB port.
We'll have to wait and see how that product and the one above differ (if they do), but I would presume the Zoomit card will work on the iPad as well.

FYI, the iPad's SD accessory is more like a camera connector kit than a general purpose SD card reader. That's from Apple's own description of it. This thing sounds much more useful though because of the iPhone's lack of a system wide file system, it'll be more awkward to use it than it could be.

I was referring to the fact that Apple itself calls it a Camera Connection Kit which only supports importing pictures and videos from camera SD cards. It's not a general purpose SD card reader which is what this product is trying to do.
