Apple placing ban on jailbroken devices?

App Store ban for jailbreakers

According to a report, Apple has begun banning users with a hacked iPhone from its App Store. Sherif Hashim, an iPhone hacker who is credited with finding an exploit in the latest iPhone software, recently posted a message on Twitter explaining that his Apple ID had been banned for "security reasons." Following the Twitter post another iPhone hacker, iH8sn0w, who is responsible for Sn0wbreeze, sent a reply claiming he was experiencing the same issue.

While Sherif has not yet released his hack, the iPhone Dev-Team has been testing it out and confirmed it as working. A firm release date for this unlock is unknown but it is thought that it might be held off until the next major iPhone software update is released.

Apple has regularly closed security holes used for jailbreaking and unlocking on the iPhone but isn't known to have actively targeted those responsible for finding the exploits or creating the utilities. It hasn't commented on the Redmond Pie rumor.

I have an original iPhone, bought and paid for. I don't have AT&T service though, so it's now a useless brick. THANKS APPLE.

Bad reporting

Um, have you seen this?

What makes you think this is because it's a "hacked iPhone"? Has anyone considered that people who are familiar with these iPhone Dev Team members' email addresses are s******* with them because of their high profile? All it takes is a few bad login attempts to get an account locked in this way.

There is NO indication Apple is doing this to "hacked" iPhones.

And Besides

Even if this reporting was accurate, you could still get apps from the App Store for you phone by getting them through iTunes, providing your name wasn't banned, or the limitation were only placed on connections from an iPhone device.

Another explanation...

Apple also disables IDs after a period of inactivity. I've had that happen to me a few times (and I don't even have an iPhone). It always says something about disabling the ID for "security reasons". But I've been able to get it working again by using the "forgot my password" or "reset my password" process.

Im with Bobfozz... if you're going to hack it be prepared to have limited access to features and some limitations. It's just the way it goes, when you mod things.

So?

A brick and mortar store can ban customers too. So why can't Apple?
