IP-Relay service brought to the iPhone
Royal Caribbean has launched a new iPhone communication services for guests on its cruise ships, while Purple Communications has brought its IP-Relay service to the iPhone
Royal Caribbean has teamed up with DeFi to create an iPhone application specifically for guests abroad its cruise ships. Royal Connect allows guests to communicate with family and friends on the ship, make various reservations, and get updates on cruise activities. Parents can also use the application to keep track of where their kids are. through location updates from RFID wristbands. The technology is currently in use on Oasis of the Seas, the world's largest cruise ship. Guests can rent a handheld device preloaded with the Royal Connect software for $18.
Calling service for users with hearing disabilities launched on iPhone
A new iPhone application designed to help users with hearing disabilities has been released in the US App Store. IP-Relay allows users to make calls by communicating through a certified IP-Relay operator. When the call is initiated the user can type a message and the operator will read it to the caller on the other end, and vice versa. The app includes direct integration with a users contact list along with a recent calls list for quickly redialing a number. The service is government funded meaning no additional costs are required to use the app.
