App Store release dependent on licensing

The first-person shooter Hexen II, originally developed by Raven and published by id in 1997, could soon be available for the iPhone and iPod touch. Developer Vimov says it has been working on a port of the game, using publicly available source code. The title is set in a fantasy universe and incorporates some role-playing elements, such as classes and gradually-improving player statistics.

The iPhone title remains in rough shape, so far lacking music, a menu system and performance optimizations. Controls are likewise simple and unfinished. The greatest obstacle however is said to be licensing, as Vimov has yet to work out a deal with Activision, which originally published Hexen II for the PC. The original art and game assets cannot be used without permission.

I wish they would make it for Mac too.

I have that game. Unfortunately it was back in my "previous" life. The life where I used OS/2 most of the time and Windows only when I absolutely had to. In 1998 I starting living my "new life" when I got a Bondi Blue iMac. It had OS 9. In 2000 my change over was complete when I got my first iMac with OS X. An iMac lamp.

I wish they would make it for Mac too.
