iPhone Developer Center suffers Thursday downtime

updated 04:40 pm EST, Thu March 4, 2010

Little hint at planned changes

The official iPhone Developer Center is currently experiencing downtime. The site has so far been inaccessible for over an hour as of this writing, displaying only Apple's signature "we'll be back soon" image as a placeholder. The service hosts a number of essential resources for iPhone and iPod developers.

What Apple might be updating at the Developer Center is unknown, as it did not provide any warning beforehand. The company could be opening up submissions of iPad apps, which may be essential given that the first iPad hardware will become available later this month. In late February developers gained access to the Universal Application binary format, finally permitting iPhone projects to incorporate iPad assets.

    Developer Site Down

The rest of the Developer site is down as well. If you try to go to Macintosh Development, you get a similar (but different) message.

    Suffering?

    Puh-leeeze.

They are updating the site. It's not an unscheduled outage. Quit trying to make it seem like something bad has happened.
