Joos Orange recharger gives 20X more solar power

updated 09:15 am EST, Thu March 4, 2010

Single charge can repower up to four smartphones

Solar Components has announced its first product, the Joos Orange solar recharger, which the company claims provides 20 times the capacity of solar chargers currently on the market. The Joos Orange is designed for use with personal electronics such as phones, MP3 players, and GPS devices. It runs a 5-inch mono-crystalline solar cell and a replaceable 3.7 volt, 5,400mAh lithium-ion polymer battery; with this, the pack can provide 2.5 hours of talk time on a typical cell phone for each hour of charging time.

When fully charged, the Joos can repower four smartphones. It can also be used as an external power source for devices with dead batteries.

The add-on is enclosed in a non-yellowing urethane, making it waterproof and submersible. If power is needed before the solar cells have had time to charge, a USB connection provides an alternate mode of charging the battery. Solar Components expects to ship the Joos Orange solar charger in June for $100.

Thanks for the nice write-up on the Joos Orange personal solar appliance. However, the company that makes the Joos Orange is called Solar Components NOT "Solar Products" as written in the story. Could you please correct this? Thank you.

Sincerely,
David Politis, for...
Solar Components, LLC
makers of the
Joos Orange
