Wikipedia to join search options in mobile Safari?

Present options remain limited
Wikipedia could become one of the default search options in the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch versions of Safari, investigation hints. The reference is buried in the code of the iPhone 3.2 SDK, alongside the two earlier engine options. While Safari defaults to Google at present, users can also toggle Yahoo search for a different set of results.
The Wikipedia option would be unusual given that the site does not link to outside webpages, but rather articles from its own user-created encyclopedia. The site also has its own official iPhone app. It could make more sense for Apple to include other major search engines, such as Bing or Ask.com; future updates of the iPhone SDK may in theory expand the selection. Apple and Google have become increasingly antagonistic towards each other in recent months.

Hey, Apple, why not do what IE and FIrefox and probably every other browser maker has done? Create an API for the search box, and allow people to install whatever search engines they want (that has a plug-in for), rather than sitting there wasting our time telling us which sites we should want to search on.
