iTunes Store hit with worldwide search problems

Errors persist through weekend

A number of visitors to the iTunes Store may have suffered access problems over the weekend, according to scattered accounts. Searches are said to have been slower than usual, in some cases failing outright, generating an "unknown error" in response. The issue is moreover believed to have impacted people in multiple countries, and it may in some cases be persisting into Monday.

Apple only recently began polling iTunes customers for feedback on the store. Questions have revolved around movies however, suggesting that the company is looking at ways of boosting video sales, which have always lagged well behind those for music. Such sales would potentially help the iPad, and/or future web-based video streaming efforts.
