Software searches web archives for lyrics
Equinux on Friday released an update to SongGenie, a utility for improving music libraries. Version 2 automatically searches for song lyrics from a variety of web archives. Users can also obtain hard-to-find lyrics through a configurable web search, with text applied to the song with a single mouse-click.
The software analyzes each track to help find missing or incorrect information such as titles, artists, and album names. Any information can also be manually edited directly through the interface. The company claims the utility will automatically recognize over 80 percent of songs in an average music library.
The Dark Flow UI has been improved, with an index card layout for browsing content and previews. Users can now listen to tracks without leaving the program, while cover art images are rated by size and resolution.
Users can scan iTunes-compatible formats including MP3, AAC, MP4, Apple Lossless, WAV, and AIFF. The software works independently, eliminating the need to first add music to an iTunes library. Any lyrics added to song files are easily viewable on an iPod, iPhone or iPad.
SongGenie 2 is now available for $30 or €25 (including German VAT).
